The Newsairy app is developed and maintained by Enrico Bonaldo (“me”). Your privacy is important to me. Newsairy has no proprietary server component and does not collect or transmit your personal information to my servers. All data processed by the app is stored locally on your device or within your personal iCloud account. The app does not contain third-party analytics or tracking services.

I believe your reading habits and your data are yours and yours alone. I do not store or transmit your personal details, nor do I include any advertising or analytics software that talks to third parties.

Permissions

Newsairy requests no iOS system permissions beyond network access, which is required to fetch RSS, Atom and JSON feeds from the internet. No access to your photos, contacts, location, microphone, or camera is requested or used.

iCloud Sync

Newsairy uses Apple’s CloudKit framework to synchronize your feeds, articles, and reading state across your Apple devices signed in to the same iCloud account. This data — including your subscribed feeds, unread/read status, starred articles, and app preferences — is stored in your personal iCloud account and is subject to Apple’s iCloud Privacy Policy. I have no access to this data at any time.

You can disable iCloud sync at any time through iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Newsairy.

The Old Reader Integration

If you choose to connect a The Old Reader account, Newsairy sends your email and password directly to The Old Reader’s authentication API to obtain a session token. Your credentials are never stored or transmitted to my servers — only the authentication token is saved securely in the iOS Keychain on your device. All subsequent communication with The Old Reader uses this token. All communication with The Old Reader is subject to The Old Reader’s Privacy Policy. You can disconnect your account at any time from the app’s settings.

Feedbin Integration

If you choose to connect a Feedbin account, Newsairy sends your credentials directly to Feedbin’s authentication API to verify them. Your credentials are never transmitted to any server controlled by me — they are stored only on your device, securely in the iOS Keychain, and used to authenticate every subsequent request to Feedbin. All communication with Feedbin is subject to Feedbin’s Privacy Policy. You can disconnect your account at any time from the app’s settings, which removes the stored credentials from your device.

Miniflux / FreshRSS Integration

If you choose to connect a Miniflux or FreshRSS server, Newsairy uses the credentials you provide (server URL plus username and password, or an API key for Miniflux) to authenticate with that server. Your credentials are never transmitted to any server controlled by me. Depending on the authentication method, either an HTTP Basic Authorization header (which encodes your username and password in a reversible format) or a session token obtained from your server is stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device and used for every subsequent request. All communication occurs directly between the app and the server you chose, and I have no access to it at any time. You can disconnect your account at any time from the app’s settings, which removes the stored authentication data from your device.

Inoreader Integration

If you choose to connect an Inoreader account, Newsairy authenticates via OAuth 2.0. The login happens in a system-managed authentication session (Apple’s ASWebAuthenticationSession): your email and password are entered directly into Inoreader’s login page in a sandboxed browser view, and Newsairy never sees or receives your credentials. Inoreader returns an access token and a refresh token, both stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device. The access token authenticates every subsequent request, and is renewed using the refresh token when it expires. All communication with Inoreader is subject to Inoreader’s Privacy Policy. You can disconnect your account at any time from the app’s settings, which removes the stored tokens from your device.

Feed Fetching

When Newsairy fetches RSS, Atom or JSON feeds, it connects directly to the web servers hosting those feeds. Your IP address may be visible to those servers as part of a standard internet connection. No additional personal information is transmitted. Newsairy does not proxy feed requests through my servers.

Crash and Diagnostic Reports

Newsairy contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. However, if you have enabled Apple’s “Share With App Developers” option (iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share anonymized crash logs and diagnostic data with me to help diagnose bugs and improve the app. This data is collected and anonymized by Apple — not by Newsairy — and does not identify you. You can turn it off at any time in iOS Settings.

Data Shared with Third Parties

Newsairy does not share your data with any third party beyond:

  • Apple / iCloud: for synchronization purposes, as described above.
  • The Old Reader: if you choose to connect an account, as described above.
  • Feedbin: if you choose to connect an account, as described above.
  • Inoreader: if you choose to connect an account, as described above.
  • Miniflux / FreshRSS server: if you choose to connect one, as described above. The data on your server is entirely under your control.
  • Feed publishers: your IP address is visible to the servers hosting the feeds you subscribe to, as part of a standard HTTP request.

No data is ever sold, rented, or shared with advertisers or analytics providers.

Data Retention and Deletion

All app data — including your feed subscriptions, cached articles, reading state, and preferences — is stored locally on your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your personal iCloud account. No data is stored on my servers. All local data is automatically deleted when you uninstall Newsairy. To remove iCloud data, you can manage or delete it through iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage.

Your Rights

Since Newsairy does not collect or store your personal data on external servers, you maintain complete control over your information at all times. You may:

  • Disable iCloud sync at any time through iOS Settings.
  • Disconnect The Old Reader, Feedbin, Inoreader, or any Miniflux / FreshRSS server at any time from within the app.
  • Delete all local app data by uninstalling Newsairy.
  • Delete iCloud data through iOS Settings > iCloud > Manage Account Storage.

Children’s Privacy

Newsairy does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The app does not target or appeal specifically to children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

I may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised date below, and material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
