Newsairy 1.19 is here, with two pieces this time: a wider net for feeds, and a proper home for what you’ve read.

RSS 1.0 (RDF) feeds. Feeds that used to get rejected as “unknown format” now add and read like any other — Slashdot and the rest of the RDF family, including the feeds WordPress generates at /feed/rdf/.

Read History, done properly. It’s now a smart feed, and it can mean two different things depending on how you use it: only the articles you actually opened in Newsairy, or everything marked as read — including by scroll or by sync. A toggle in the toolbar switches between the two, and the choice sticks.

A handful of smaller things came with it:

  • Aggregators now refresh in parallel, instead of one after another.
  • Feed icons retry fewer times before giving up when one’s missing.
  • Images inside <figure> elements no longer lose width to indentation.
  • On Mac, ⌘, finally opens Settings — the menu item shows the shortcut too, so it’s easy to find.
  • On Mac, Up/Down arrow keys between articles now also work from inside the article view, not just the list.

A few more fixes:

  • The Old Reader’s account screen now tells you whether the service itself is down or the problem’s local.
  • Feedbin was silently dropping articles — fixed thanks to the user who reported it.
  • A feed that fails to add from the Curated Starter Feeds now names itself in the error, instead of a generic “Not a valid feed.”
  • Mark All as Read, with a search active, now reads Mark All Found as Read and only touches the results in front of you.
  • The article filter (All / Unread / Starred) is simpler.
  • Debug Info now gives the FullText cache its own trash icon.
